Skippy Dies Giveaway

'What?!' I hear you ask, 'A giveaway!'

Yes, a giveaway. Penguin were kind enough to send me a copy of the completed box-set of Skippy Dies after I had read my proof and I have decided to pass my bounty on to you. As you'll see from the picture on the left it's a handsome beast and, if you haven't already, you can read my thoughts on the book here.

So what do you have to do to secure yourself this prize? Not a lot really. Just comment below or email me by clicking on the link on the left there (If you're reading this through Facebook then you can use the comment box there too), and I'll use quantum mechanics to decide a winner by the end of Valentine's Day.

(I'm afraid I'm going to have to keep it UK only due to postal charges)

Highly unlikely that the first one up is going to win. But I put my faith in the Book Gods for this one :).

Rob Rob Rob, you should know by now that any blogger worth their wotsits use a form of divination involving animal entrails to choose winners these days.

Anyway, I'd like that handsome looking book - pick me.

Oh, I have to pop myself forward for this one as it sounds as good as it looks. I also think the title is an intriguing one.

That edition is definitely worth breaking my no comments rule.

Hi William, I've come to your blog this evening through your flagrant use of the comments section at John Self's Asylum!

I would love to win a copy of Skippy Dies - I hereby add my voice to the chorus of "Pick Me!"

I'm interested to see that you and John appear to have noted similar points about the book, particularly that the first section is the sharpest.

I read a thought-provoking novel about an online roleplaying game recently (Tim Etchell's The Broken World), so I'm keen to see how Murray conveys Skippy's interest in Hopeland - the quote you used about the game-over screen was intriguing!

Thank you all for showing an interest in Skippy Dies. Since I published my thoughts there have been some amazing reviews for the book in the press, so whoever wins will be happy I think.

Eva - I asked John (via Twitter) how he was getting on with the book when I was about half way through, not knowing that he had already finished it, and I couldn't help but agree with his brief summary. Thinking about it more afterwards my hunch is that whilst the first book is neater and immediately satisfying, the later parts of the book might reward further reading. It's certainly there that Murray flexes his muscles writing-wise. I'm glad the excerpt intrigued you! Murray rather brilliantly uses the game world to unlock some of Skippy's secrets. I'll say no more...
